History
The park was originally established in 1910, by Joseph Horne Dry Goods Company as a summer escape for their employees. In 1966, the park was purchased by Avonworth Municipal Authority with the help of the Pennsylvania State Project 70 and federal land grants. Two years later the park was dedicated as Avonworth Community Organization for Recreation and Develop (ACORD).
The Avonworth Municipal Authority Board consists of representatives from the five surrounding municipalities: Ben Avon Borough, Ben Avon Heights Borough, Emsworth Borough, Kilbuck Township and Ohio Township. From the five communities, one member is elected to serve on the Avonworth Authority Board, whom oversees the operations of the park.
Since 1966, the Park has continued to focus its main goal of providing recreational facilities for our surrounding communities and general public. Avonworth Community Park provides numerous activities for the communities through our seasonal rental months; with events such as the Summer Concert Series and Wednesday Night Swims. The Park not only offers rental facilities but is a great place to visit daily with the entire family.
